Our production process

Our complete process, from seed to end product

At Ropapharm International we manage the production process ourselves, from start to finish.

  • All Ropapharm International products are produced in our own factories.

  • Our oregano plants are all planted and harvested on our own fields in the Netherlands

  • We quality control and can thus guarantee a high and effective carvacrol level is all our oregano oil

Step-by-step

1. Breeding

First we ensure that we have a strong population of oregano plants through a selective breeding process.

2. Selection

The best plants are then selected from the breeding process. This is an important step in our process in which experience & expertise is decisive.

3. Culturing

For 6 weeks, the plants are grown in our greenhouses under controlled conditions until they are about 10 cm, then they are ready to be transferred to the fields. The soil they go into has been carefully prepared and has the right composition to ensure healthy oregano plants.

4. Harvesting

After about a year and a half, the plants are ready to be harvested. The plants are of a proper size for harvesting and have developed the correct composition to contain a large amount of the desired active ingredients (carvacrol and thymol).

5. Steam distillation

With steam distillation, we separate the relevant active ingredients and the other plant material. After this step we have a pure, powerful oregano oil, with a very high concentration of carvacrol. The residuals that are left over from the distillation are used to make tea and preserve food in a natural way.

6. Production of our final product

Oregano oil is the main ingredient of our products. In our factory, we process the oil together with other active substances and carriers, such as water and wheat flour, into various end products. By analyzing our raw materials and taking into account natural fluctuations of the ingredients, we can guarantee a consistent end product with the same efficacy repeatedly.
